Street parties
Guidance on organising a street party in the borough.
If you’re planning a street party in the borough, you may need permission for road closures and licences.
Temporary road closure
If your street party takes place on a public road or highway, you'll need to apply for a temporary road closure.
Temporary Event Notice
You do not need a licence if:
- you provide all food and drink yourself
- any live music is ancillary
You will need a Temporary Event Notice (£21) if:
- you charge admission
- the event is open to the public
- your party includes:
- more than 500 people
- sale of alcohol
- live music
- hot food or drink served after 11pm

Other licences
- You may need a lottery registration if you are selling tickets in advance for a raffle.
- If you sell raffle or tombola tickets on the day for charity or good causes and prizes are less than £500, you probably won’t need extra permission.
Insurance
We recommend insurance cover of at least £5 million per claim for any street party.
