Trees on neighbouring property or land

Although trees provide many benefits, they can sometimes cause damage to property either directly through the roots and branches, or indirectly through altering soil moisture.

We always encourage reporting the damage to the tree owner first to provide them with the chance to resolve the issue, and informing your insurers who will often pursue it on your behalf.

If a tree that is suspected of causing damage is on the roadside, roadside verge, social housing land or a public site, please report it:

• for trees on the roadside and road side verges: report to Surrey Country Council Highways
• for trees on social housing land: contact PA Housing
• for trees on cemeteries, council-run car parks, commons, heathlands and countryside sites, day centres, open spaces, parks or recreation grounds: email treerisk@elmbridge.gov.uk
