Planning applications for householders

The Planning Portal provides useful guidance on whether a project needs planning permission. You can use:

For some forms of permitted development, you need to apply for prior approval.

Other permissions to consider

You may also need other consents as well as, or instead of, planning permission. This could include:

• changes to listed buildings may need 'listed building consent', see listed buildings
• demolition in conservation areas may need planning permission, see conservation areas
• developments that affect trees which are protected, see protected trees
• getting the kerb lowered outside your property may need permission, see dropped kerbs
