Advertising licensing applications

All new or variation applications for premises licences or club premises certificates must be advertised by both:

• displaying a public notice at the premises 
• a public notice in a local newspaper

Public notice at the premises

As the applicant, you are responsible for 

• printing, putting up and maintaining the notice
• displaying the notice at or on the premises for at least 28 consecutive days starting the day after the application was submitted
• displaying the notice prominently at the premises so that it can be read from the outside of the premises 
• where the premises covers an area of more than 50 metres square - displaying the notice every 50 metres along the external perimeter of the premises bordering any highway

The notice must be printed on paper that is
•    A4 size or larger
•    pale blue
•    printed legibly in black ink in font size 16pt at least 

Public notices in local newspapers

As the applicant, you are responsible for publishing a notice:

• in a local newspaper circulating in the area of the premises 
• at least once during the 10 working days starting the day after the application was submitted

The local newspaper in Elmbridge is the Surrey Advertiser (Elmbridge edition). We will not accept advertisements placed in free newspapers.

Failing to advertise

If you don't advertise the application correctly, the application will not be valid. 

Representations

Interested parties can make representations for up to 28 consecutive days after the application has been made, starting on the day the application was submitted. For more information on representations, see licensing hearing procedures.
