A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to restrict the use of barbecues and naked flames is in place in Elmbridge.
The PSPO applies from midnight on 21 July 2023 until midnight on 21 July 2026.
It applies to all parks, open spaces and countryside sites in Elmbridge.
The PSPO bans the lighting of fires including:
Unless you have prior agreement with the council having completed an application booking an event in a restricted area.
For more information on the restricted area, see the following documents:
Everyone is welcome to visit our parks, green spaces and countryside sites. However, the order bans the use of cooking equipment that needs a naked flame or presents a risk of fire.
Please remember to take your rubbish home or put it in a bin.
Be cautious when discarding cigarette butts. Not only is this littering, but it also creates a significant risk of fire.
The increasing availability of portable fire pits and barbeques has led to an increased risk of wildfires in our local parks and open spaces, especially as we have seen less rainfall during the summer months.
Wildfires can be incredibly damaging to wildlife, natural habitats, water and air quality, and affects recreational enjoyment of open spaces.
Following consultation with residents in 2023, a PSPO is now in place.
